Book Review: The Ultimate Guide to Threesomes
I reviewed this book which was provided for free by the publisher. However, I do not receive any compensation for reviews. All book reviews are My personal and subjective opinion.
I groaned as I opened the package, "Ugh, people need to stop sending me books!" Looking at my bedside table, like pretty much every other table in my apartment, there was a hefty stack of softcovers to read with some only partially flipped through. "Oooo, The Ultimate Guide to Threesomes by Stella Harris?! Nevermind, people can keep sending me books!"
Stella Harris is an amazing author whom I fell in love with after reading and raving about Tongue Tied back in 2018. Highly educated and well spoken, Harris employs an engaging mix of informative and anecdotal advice in her writing. With Threesomes I was expecting more concentrated information on that specific topic, however, just as Tongue Tied covered more than the anticipated material I was pleasantly surprised with how versatile Threesomes proved to be!
Having ventured into the world of alternative sex, I am familiar with several of the perils and pitfalls Harris mentioned. Threesomes illuminated as to where and how these past group activities had gone south and steps to avoid them in the future. Especially insightful were the topics of jealousy and logistics. There's a joke about how the most difficult part of polyamory is managing schedules, but Harris goes beyond that to discuss initial meetings, the arc of first dates, and pacing of sexual relationships to fit your comfort level.
Covering stages from the "threesomes are hot" fantasy to the "orgy friends" crowd, Stella Harris has advice for everyone. I found the sections on deepening the threesome fantasy without having a third, and ways to find partners especially insightful, making this an excellent read for singles, couples, and those not interested in group play. Kink, polyamory, open relationships, and alternative sexualities are all discussed, making for a very inclusive read chock full of ideas for play.
I was also ecstatic to be introduced to several new positions and the art of Bronwyn Schuster highlighting her Kama Sutra Bunnies (of which I need the entire series).
The Ultimate Guide to Threesomes is an excellent read for sex in the 21st century that should be a part of every sex-positive person's library. While Threesomes is fully able to stand alone, it pairs well with Tongue Tied for a complete guidebook into the world of sex. I'm looking forward to seeing what else Stella Harris has in store for us in the future.
